That’s what the Alternative Education License is all about. It’s designed to prepare you to work with teachers, school districts, and community members to develop programs that help all students.

Program Overview

The Alternative Education License is an additional license for individuals who possess a teacher’s license from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The program itself does not require a teacher’s license and may be of interest to anyone who works with children, their families, and at-risk youth.

Students who desire licensure in another state must contact their state department of education for details about whether or not this coursework will meet state requirements.

What to Expect

This is a license that is perfect for educators who are passionate about driving student success. It requires two classes – Education Students at Risk and Alternative Education – each of which is worth three credits and must be taken consecutively. If you’re interested in adding this licensure to your DPI certification, you’ll also need to complete a portfolio.
